Salmon Wall Carving

THE PIECE

This salmon wall sculpture begins as a solid block of beech wood — sourced from the forests of the Black Sea region of northern Turkey, where the climate produces a dense, close-grained timber well suited to detailed work.

The form is first shaped by CNC machine, which establishes the overall silhouette and depth with precision. From there, the piece moves entirely to hand — edges refined, surface details worked, fins and scale texture carved by chisel and blade until the form reads as natural movement rather than cut geometry. The machine sets the foundation; the hand finishes it.

Once carving and sanding are complete, the piece receives a single finish: pure olive oil, nothing else. It absorbs into the wood, deepening the natural color of the beech, nourishing the grain from within, and creating a naturally antibacterial surface without varnish or lacquer.

THE FINISH

No paint. No stain. No synthetic coating. The warm amber tone you see is the beech wood itself, brought out by olive oil and light. Every piece is slightly different — the grain shifts, the tone varies — because the material itself is never identical.
